Jesus - Atonement

John 20:27
When we lived in Jamaica we often read of criminals who received lashes for crimes they committed. We were told that you can tell a man who has been lashed, because after the experience his walk is distinctive. His body bears the result of such a whipping.
Interestingly enough, Jesus too was different after he was crucified. He too would bear scars for all time and eternity as a reminder of his atoning death. He even told Thomas in John 20:27:
“Put your finger here; see my hands.”
The nail-scarred hands should remind us of the cost of Calvary. Because of them we can know forgiveness of sins and life eternal. Mary John Wilkin put it graphically when she wrote:
“Oh, I’m headed for a home built for God alone, Hallelujah, Praise the Lord, I surely am,
Where the only thing there that’s been made by man are the scars in the hands of Jesus.”
His scars mean my salvation!
